UC Davis-led study finds protein structures give disease clues
Using some of the most powerful nuclear magnetic resonance equipment available, researchers at the University of California, Davis, are making discoveries about the shape and structure of biological molecules ? potentially leading to new ways to treat or prevent diseases such as breast cancer and Alzheimer?s disease. The findings appear in the latest issues of the journals Nature and Journal of Biological Chemistry.

UCSF scientists develop a new potential therapeutic target for brain cancer
Glioblastoma multiforme (GBM) is the most common of all malignant brain tumors that originate in the brain. Patients with GBM have a poor prognosis because it is a highly aggressive form of cancer that is commonly resistant to current therapies. New therapeutic approaches are therefore much needed. Researchers at the University of California, San Francisco, have now identified a potential new therapeutic target for the treatment of GBM.

January 2012 Disability Employment Statistics Released
The U.S. Department of Labor's Bureau of Labor Statistics has released disability employment statistics for January showing that the percentage of people with disabilities in the labor force was 20.0. By comparison, the percentage of persons with no disability in the labor force was 68.9. The unemployment rate for those with disabilities was 12.9 percent, compared with 8.7 percent for persons with no disability, not seasonally adjusted.
