The Australia Government has extended full assistance to Papua New Guinea following the sinking yesterday of the MV Rabaul Queen. Foreign Minister Kevin Rudd said Australia stands side-by-side with Papua New Guinea at this difficult time. Black Salve in treating cancer
TGA warns consumers about the use of Black Salve in treating cancer. The TGA is not aware of any credible, scientific evidence which shows that Black Salve is effective in treating cancer. Black Salve is being sold to Australian patients and consumers as an 'alternative treatment' for cancer, including skin cancer.

Bathurst water treatment upgrade to save 192 million litres a year - media release 3 February 2012
Parliamentary Secretary for Sustainability and Urban Water. A $1.3 million upgrade to the Bathurst Water Filtration Plant will save up to 192 million litres of drinking water each year, significantly improving Bathurst's long-term water security. Saving this water will reduce the need for water from the Macquarie River to be used for town water supply.

Poly Implant Prothese (PIP) breast implants - TGA update
PIP breast implants were available in Australia between 1998 and April 2010. The TGA also requested the Australian sponsor of PIP breast implants to contact surgeons directly who purchased PIP breast implants, informing them of the market recall and reminding surgeons of the need for follow-up of patients implanted with this product. All breast implants carry the risk of rupture.

Learner Drivers?Take Advantage of a Free Driving Lesson
With 279 young people aged between 17 and 25 killed on Australia's roads last year, the Parliamentary Secretary for Infrastructure and Transport has called on parents and learner drivers to think about having a keys2drive lesson. Keys2drive provides free driving lessons to learner drivers by accredited driving instructors and with the participation of parents. Ms King said every parent with a child learning to drive should take the time to have a keys2drive lesson with that child.

CEO Sought for First National Heavy Vehicle Regulator
A global search is underway for the first CEO of the new independent National Heavy Vehicle Regulator based in Queensland. The head of the National Heavy Vehicle Regulator will establish national operating systems and procedures for the heavy vehicle sector and ensure compliance with the Heavy Vehicle National Law. COAG has agreed to a start date of 1 January 2013 for the National Heavy Vehicle Regulator.

Department of Health &Ageing - $11 million investment in new Victorian medical school
THE HON TANYA PLIBERSEK MP. Ms Plibersek said the Gillard Government had invested $11.2 million to construct the school, which will support the education, training and clinical placement of up to 80 medical students from the university. 'The new school further strengthens Notre Dame's presence in Victoria and will make a valuable contribution to the medical needs of the local community.
